Children's Health Research Institute was founded by the Department of Paediatrics of the Faculty of Medicine at Western University in collaboration with Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre and the Board of the Children’s Health Foundation. In the first decade, Children's Health Research Institute's research was focused on paediatric pain and limited biomedical sciences.
An External Review Team recommended renewing and increasing support to Children's Health Research Institute including the building of a new structure.
Dr. Victor Han was appointed as the new Director, with a mandate to develop a new research institute. Children's Health Research Institute was reorganized into a “virtual research institute” with researchers at Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre, Western University, Lawson Health Research Institute and the Robarts Research Institute.
Children's Health Research Institute became a research institute within Lawson Health Research Institute, when all of the hospital-based research programs were amalgamated into one single umbrella organization.
Over 100 Scientists and Associate Scientists of Children's Health Research Institute continue to improving the health of newborns, children and youth. The research questions being asked today will become the health care breakthroughs of tomorrow.
